My mom made this recipe A LOT as I grew up… when blueberries were in season they were in everything, from breakfast to dessert. Blueberries aren’t exactly in season right now but when you miss home the comfort foods are what you reach for first.
It’s a simple recipe that you can find nearly anywhere.

- 1 quart of blueberries (4 cups), frozen or fresh
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar (more or less to taste)
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter, cold
- approximately 1 cup milk
In this recipe you cook the dough in the blueberries for 15 minutes… However if that’s not for you, you can always bake them for about 20-25 minutes or until they’re thoroughly cooked. However this leaves the dough fairly crunchy on the outside, but still soft in the middle.
Pair this with some vanilla ice cream and you have a wonderful, fresh dessert. Overall cooking time about 35 minutes.
